Use Your Good Mind

by: Jennie S. Bev

“It is not enough to have a good mind. The main thing is to use it well.” ~René Descartes

We are born as winners, that’s for sure. If you’re not sure, again, re-read my books. You’ll find it again and again and again. “Brain wash” your mind if you still believe that you’re not a winner. For some reasons, I was born with a “winning attitude,” that’s why many people who don’t know me well may think that I’m kinda arrogant or overconfident. Whatever they say, the show must go on.

(Especially for a woman, it is hard to really stand up for myself. I’m supposed to be the “weaker” sex, the “lemah lembut” dan “pasrah” one. In many ways, I still am feminine, but in terms of attitude, I’m a winner.)

Biarlah mereka bilang apa saja mengenai saya. Kalau dipikir-pikir, semua leader besar percaya akan diri mereka sendiri. Itulah juga mengapa begitu banyak leaders alias pemimpin yang mendapat oposisi. Why? Because we can’t make everybody happy.

You too, if you use your mind in a positive and powerful way, may find many oppositions. However, the advantages would override the disadvantages. Believe that you can and be the best that you can be.

Lesson from Children

by: Jennie S. Bev

I learn a lot from children. They are my “little teachers.” They are more than those who will inherit our world. They are our light and soul of the future. I don’t have my own children, not yet. But most children usually instantly like me. Some of them want me to cuddle them and others simply want to touch me. I have strong bonds with children, which is a blessing.

These miniature people have taught me to trust others, to live a life one day at a time, and to live to the fullest. Children live at the moment, they don’t care much about the future, unlike us adults who constantly worry about it. Just in Zen teachings, there is a saying, “Live life at the moment. Do the best you can at the moment. Worry not.”

One of my dearest nieces is Jocelyn. She is a big girl now and goes to junior high. She is one of the smartest kids I’ve ever met. She has a big dream to go to Yale and make a difference in the world. She is a good basketball player and a hula dancer. She is a top student in her class. She is just a well-rounded girl. When I was her age, I was just a bookworm (I still am, he he) and didn’t have any real aspirations. But not her. She knows where she stands and where she is heading in life.

I learn a couple of things from her: always believe in ourselves, always trust that today will bring the best in ourselves, and to live to the fullest every day, every second. Play hard, as hard as you work. Dress up from time to time, to feel good about ourselves. Be a princess for a day, because if you don’t make yourself one, nobody else will.

What you give, You get in Return (Pasti)

by: Jennie S. Bev

I have just received an e-mail from a fellow UI alumnus who has been supporting me in his own way. He was surprised and touched when I did something for him that he didn’t expect me to do. I did it for him because I truly appreciate what he did for me. After all, what I did was sharing to the world.

Sharing > Triggered Sharing > Triggered More Sharing

I said to him cheerfully,

What you give to the world, you’ll get in return.
What you give to me, you’ll get in return.

There is nothing to be scared of giving. The more we give to the world, the better chance that our positive vibrations be accepted and at least receive a reciprocal response along the way in different forms. Just don’t expect anything in return (jangan mengharapkan apapun, let it be a surprise for you).

I didn’t realize how powerful this “giving” thing is.

I have a few people whom I love so dearly simply because of their spirit of giving. I’ll share more about who they are in the following postings about Six Degrees. Sabar ya.

Our Most Remarkable Ability

by: Jennie S. Bev

I’m reading a remarkable part motivational-part psychology book by Daniel Gilbert entitled Stumbling on Happiness. Unlike any other books on happiness, it doesn’t preach nor coach its readers to be happy and doesn’t include how-to pointers on how to achieve it within a particular period of time.

With a lot of style and knowledge, it is a book that carefully slices off the multiple layers of a humane phenomenon so-called “happiness.” Yes, it slices off what it really is scientifically and how it is one reality that we “stumble” upon day by day.

Sometimes, “happiness” cannot be expressed in words and cannot be understood in entirety. Thanks to Gilbert, we have an opportunity to really look within and without on what constitutes “true” happiness. I have never read any book of this topic of this caliber, which explains in-depth about this often overlooked and oversimplified feeling.

Happiness, after all, is the ultimate goal of most people, including you and me. A great book is a fast-track door to a new journey to live a fuller, better, and more meaningful life for us and others.

Be happy, my friends, and be remarkable. Settle not with mediocrity, because we are given with the ability to imagine and make things happen.

Being a Catalist

“The greatest blessing for one to become is being a catalyst for others to do and to be the best they can.”
~ Jennie S. Bev

What is a “catalyst”?

According to Dictionary.com: catalyst (noun) is a substance which causes or assists a chemical change in another substance without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change.

Ask these questions to yourself. Reflect and answer them at heart (or below this posting):

Have you ever become a catalyst?
Have you ever caused a change in others?
Have you ever inspired others?
Have you ever made a significant action that would trigger others to do something unusual?

How did you do all those things?
When will you repeat all those things, again?
Have you promised yourself to become a catalyst for a good change in others, again and again throughout your lifetime?
If you haven’t, promise yourself not to let yourself (and your loved ones) down.

We all are catalysts in others, whether we realize it or not. Make a small change and it will trigger many other changes. Do it with positivity and ask nothing in return. You’d surprised of how big a change you did to the world.
